Suogang Village: North and South Stone Pagodas

Since ancient times, Penghu's winds, especially the strong northeast monsoon, have severely threatened the lives of residents. Therefore, stone pagodas were erected as a spiritual pillar of faith, serving to suppress winds and ward off evil spirits. They are also known as the Zhenshan Ziwu Treasured Pagodas or Wind-Suppressing Pagodas. In 1964 (the 53rd year of the Republic), the spirit medium of Xuan Tian Shang Di (Emperor of the Dark Heaven) at Beiji Temple instructed that the collapsed stone pagodas be rebuilt into nine stories, forming two structures: the South Wu Pagoda and the North Zi Pagoda. There is also a saying that 'layers upon layers, numbers upon numbers, ascending to nine venerable figures, ensures eternal longevity.'
