Visitor Essentials

Fugang was formerly known as 'Monkeys.' It was the first landing point for early East Coast indigenous people arriving from Green Island, who then migrated from here towards the coastline, leaving some historical sites in the vicinity. Local indigenous people still reside on the higher marine terrace southwest of the current port area. After the Fugang Fishing Port was constructed, some residents relocated to the marine terrace west of the nearby fishing community, forming the former Fugang New Village, which was predominantly Han Chinese. Residents who made a living from local agriculture settled along the streets.
