Moon Cave (Yuedong) is located in Fengbin Township, Hualien County, south of Shitiping and about 1 kilometer from Gangkou Village. It is a natural stalactite cave and a sacred place in the eyes of the indigenous people of the Gangkou Tribe. Inside the cave, there is a pool of accumulated water approximately 5 meters across. The lake water rises and falls with the waxing and waning of the moon, which is why it is called 'Moon Cave' and also known as 'Moon Well' (Yuejing). Legend has it that there are many eels in the lake, one of which weighs over 10 kilograms and is known as the 'thousand-year eel'.
