Taoyuan: Guoju Umbrella Cultural and Creative Park

【Evaluation valid period: 2022/06/10~2025/06/09】 Guoju Umbrella Xinyi Co., Ltd. was established in Taoyuan City in 1984. Initially, it mainly manufactured affordable umbrellas. Coinciding with the golden age of domestic umbrella manufacturing, and to meet the demand of numerous orders, the company moved to mainland China where labor costs were lower. In 1988, a factory was established in Xingning County, Guangdong Province, mainland China, and in 1991, it moved again to Longgang District, Shenzhen. However, the head office has always remained rooted in Taiwan throughout the years. After 1990, the company gradually shifted to export, and in 1992, it transformed into an OEM manufacturer, turning ordinary umbrellas into "works of art". It bravely pursued R&D and innovation, insisted on quality, and began producing high-end ladies' parasols, manufacturing for internationally renowned luxury brands such as LV, HERMES, GUCCI, Burberry, FENDI, and Yves Saint Laurent (YSL). In 2009, it transformed into an OBM factory, creating its own brand P+5. Later, it introduced advanced German DuPont coatings to produce premium parasols with a 99.99% shading rate. In 2014, the China factory was closed and moved back to Taiwan. To polish the image of "Made in Taiwan" luxury brands and in response to the "salmon returning home" movement, Chairman Li Ming-zhi moved all mainland China factories back to Taiwan. In 2016, a factory was established in Dayuan District, Taoyuan, investing 300 million NTD to create the "Guoju Umbrella Cultural and Creative Park". This marked its expansion into the cultural and creative industry, entering both manufacturing and service sectors, and serving as a successful example of upgrading and transformation within a traditional industry. The Guoju Umbrella Cultural and Creative Park is located in Dayuan District, Taoyuan City. With 'Cross-industry Innovation, Career Experience, and Environmental Aesthetics' as its core operating philosophy, it combines diverse experiences in humanities, art, and fashion to create a low-carbon park with a silver-level green building certification, promoting environmental education. Taiwan's first 'Rainfall Experience Corridor' uses recycled rainwater, allowing visitors to hold an umbrella and personally experience different intensities of rainfall, from heavy rain to super torrential downpours in four stages. The park operates with 'Cross-industry Innovation, Career Experience, and Environmental Aesthetics' as its core, combining diverse experiences in humanities, art, and fashion to create a low-carbon cultural and creative park. The unique 'Alien Umbrella' features an avant-garde architectural style and holds a silver-level green building certification with 65% energy efficiency. Inside the museum, treasured splendid parasols from years of OEM manufacturing, umbrella-making artifacts, and industrial trajectories are displayed, documenting the rise and fall of the umbrella industry.
