Yilan: Xihe Aquatic Products Tourist Factory

【Assessment validity period: 2021/05/14~2024/05/13】 Xihe Aquatic Products originated in the 1920s, with the family initially making a living by fishing in the waters around Guishan Island. In 1957 (the 46th year of the Republic of China calendar), Grandma established "Xihe Fishery" and set up a simple "fishing shack" on the beach of Waiao to process inshore aquatic products such as whitebait, anchovies, mackerel, and small squid. In the 1970s, the second generation used self-made machinery to grade and package processed fish products to enhance quality. They distributed products to central and southern Taiwan via small trucks, gradually building a reputation and sales channels. In 2006 (the 95th year of the Republic of China calendar), the third generation relocated the factory to Lize Industrial Park, transforming it into a modern food processing plant. Raw materials primarily originate from the pristine, unpolluted waters around Yilan's Guishan Island and are processed through strict, safe procedures at a HACCP-certified facility. They also established the "Xihe San Daime Exhibition Hall," which not only showcases Yilan's fishing shack culture but also integrates factory tours with tourism and leisure. The company produces and sells its own products, develops local OTOP (One Town One Product) brands, and expands into organic market channels. General Manager Jian Daxin received the 2011 National "Top Ten Shennong" award, the Council of Agriculture's "Aquatic Products Excellence" award, and the Technology Agri-Enterprise Innovation Award, among others. On January 1, 2021, the brand-new Xihe Aquatic Products Exhibition Hall not only upgraded its original production equipment but also specially reorganized its 65-year corporate story into a brand comic exhibition, hoping to use character comics to help everyone understand the aquatic product processing industry and Xihe in an accessible way. Located in Yilan, an area rich in seafood, Xihe Foods provides consumers with safe, hygienic, and convenient aquatic products, offering them a new experience of eating fish. They also promote the concept of marine sustainability to all Earth inhabitants who should fulfill their responsibility to protect the planet.
