Taitung: Chishang Township Farmers' Association Golden Harvest Hall Tourist Factory

[Assessment Validity Period: 2023/11/09-2026/11/08] From the Japanese colonial era, Chishang Township became famous for producing "tribute rice." Over the course of a century, through the combined efforts of the Chishang Township Farmers' Association and local farmers, our rice mill has become a sacred place for producing championship rice. The Chishang Township Farmers' Association Golden Harvest Hall Tourist Factory records all the secrets behind creating the golden Chishang rice, allowing you to witness the behind-the-scenes engineering that leads to championship rice. It is a profound travel experience suitable for outdoor education and family visits. The Chishang Township Farmers' Association Rice Mill was originally built by merchant Lin Shih-lien during the Japanese colonial period, and later sold to the Chishang Farmers' Association in 1948 (ROC year 37). In 1956 (ROC year 45), a fire at the rice mill destroyed all factory buildings, machinery, and offices. Fortunately, the local gentry meticulously planned and collaborated, contributing funds and effort to repurchase factory buildings and machinery, allowing the Chishang Township Rice Mill to continue operation. The Chishang Township Farmers' Association Rice Mill currently covers 1.2 hectares and is equipped with advanced facilities, including extra-large dryers, low-temperature cold storage bins, and new Japanese-imported husking machines, rice polishing machines, and peripheral equipment. With an investment of over NT$100 million, it is one of the most advanced rice mills in the country. The high-quality rice produced by this mill has become a "Taiwan Excellence" product, not only winning three consecutive overall championships in the national rice competition but also successfully entering the Japanese market. The Chishang Rice Mill has become a "sacred place" for producing high-quality rice in Taiwan. We hope to combine professional rice milling processes, DIY rice food experiences, and Chishang farming experience activities to make the Chishang Township Farmers' Association Golden Harvest Hall Tourist Factory a destination that offers both education and leisure. Thus, the tourist factory was established in 2011 (ROC year 100) to provide visitors with a place for emotional relaxation and intellectual education. The factory complex includes the Chishang Township Farmers' Association Golden Harvest Hall Tourist Factory, featuring a cultural relics area and experience classrooms. It also offers free guided tours by reservation and a gift shop, making it the only tourist factory in Taiwan that combines sophisticated rice milling with rice education.
