In the 1950s, before he even started school, he earned money by cutting and selling shell ginger. The entire shell ginger plant can be utilized. Its leaves can be used for wrapping zongzi (rice dumplings) and as a food ingredient, and can also be extracted for industrial processing materials. The leaf sheaths can be used as material for ropes; in earlier times, fishermen used them for making fishing nets and traps. Its flowers can be used as a food spice. Its seeds, also known as 'Tusaren,' are a main ingredient for making Jintan. Its rhizomes can also be used as food spices and traditional Chinese medicinal ingredients, among other uses. Shell ginger possesses remarkable vitality, capable of growing even in the harshest environments; its presence can be seen on cliffs and by the sea. The entire plant holds value for creative utilization, much like the Taiwanese people who take root wherever they land, demonstrating intelligence, diligence, and wisdom—their full potential merely awaiting discovery. With the advancement of technology, CO2 supercritical extraction technology has revealed multiple valuable components in shell ginger. Huashi Company, with over 30 years of experience in developing daily necessities and skincare products, has invested in supercritical extraction, water extraction, and Class 10,000 cleanroom production and R&D equipment. Through industry-academia collaboration with institutions such as National Chiayi University, Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science, Chiayi Innovation Center, and the Metal Industries Research & Development Center, the company has developed a series of shell ginger products and products utilizing various indigenous characteristic plants. This initiative aims to educate the public about the ecological stories of these unique plants, integrate innovative economics into daily life, and foster a healthy, sustainable, and LOHAS lifestyle.
