Neiwei Station

Neiwei was originally named 'Neiwei' (內圍). During the Qing Dynasty, settlements had walls made of earth, stone, or bamboo fences, which were called 'wei' (圍, meaning enclosure). To defend against banditry, prefectural and county governments stationed soldiers to protect the area, and thus it was named. However, around the time of Taiwan's Retrocession, 'Neiwei' (內圍) was changed to 'Neiwei' (內惟). Consequently, Neiwei Station's design incorporates curved dense forests as an imagery of walls and includes landscaped wetlands to convey the regional landscape of 'winding waters and scenic ponds'.
