Visitor Essentials

Zuoying served as Kaohsiung's administrative center during the early Qing Dynasty and was Taiwan's first earth-built city. It was breached during the Lin Shuang-wen incident, leading to the construction of a new city in present-day Fengshan, while Zuoying became known as the Old City. In 1826, Zuoying was rebuilt as a stone city, and today it is Kaohsiung's most completely preserved city wall complex. The North Gate, East Gate, South Gate, and several hundred meters of city walls still remain. The Jiancheng Project excavated and revitalized the remnants of Zuoying Old City, establishing pathways that connect these historical areas.
