The Yong'an Wetland was formerly the Wushulin Salt Pan, established in 1908. It was once a vital salt production base in southern Taiwan, witnessing the rise and fall of Taiwan's salt industry. During the Japanese colonial period, this salt field flourished. After the KMT government took over in 1952, it was reorganized into the 'Taiwan Salt Production General Factory' and continued to develop the salt industry. However, with industrial transformation in the 1970s, the salt industry gradually declined. In 1985, Taipower acquired the land, planning it for the expansion of Hsing-ta Power Plant, and the once prosperous salt pan officially became history.
