Wenxing Temple

Deity enshrined: Master Qingshui. Its location, Weixin Village, was formerly known as Zhuzai Port, and it is one of the earliest developed areas in Yong'an. As early as the 10th year of the Jiaqing Emperor's reign (1805) during the Qing Dynasty, devotees raised funds to build the village temple, Wenxing Temple. It primarily enshrines Master Qingshui (the Black-faced Patriarch), who is regarded as the 'second patriarch' and is commonly referred to by worshippers as 'Laozu' (Old Ancestor). The rear hall enshrines the Western Pure Land Trinity (Amitābha Buddha, Guanyin Bodhisattva, and Mahāsthāmaprāpta Bodhisattva), Mañjuśrī Bodhisattva, and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. For over two hundred years, despite erosion from the elements and the temple's aged appearance, pilgrims seeking blessings from near and far continue to visit in an endless stream. During the Japanese colonial period, villagers hid the statues to prevent them from being destroyed by the Japanese. Later, due to years of disrepair and severe damage, the temple was rebuilt in 1978, with the reconstruction taking three years to complete. In 2004, the front and rear halls were redecorated. The door gods on the main gate were painted by the renowned temple painting master Pan Li-shui. Inside the temple, an ancient plaque bearing the inscription 'Cāntòu Chánjī' (Insight into Zen Mysteries) is also preserved.
