Meishan Village was formerly known as Masuhuaz, referring to a place abundant with broad-leaved rattans (huang-teng). Early Bunun people who migrated to Meishan tribe named it such because they saw the ground covered with huang-teng. Later, it was renamed Meishan. Meishan Tribe widely plants plum trees, and every winter when plum blossoms are in full bloom, the hills and fields are filled with vibrant plum blossoms, making it a paradise that visitors are reluctant to leave.
