Visitor Essentials
Hamasen was once a hub for southern maritime and railway transportation. The name "Hamasen" comes from the Japanese pronunciation of "Hamasen" (濱線). It originally referred to the branch line that ran from Kaohsiung Port Station to the pier cargo warehouses during the Japanese colonial era. Later, it broadly referred to the area west of Kaohsiung Port Station (now the Old Takao Railway Story Museum) up to the ferry terminal.
