Old Takao Station Story House

Hamasen's former prosperity was closely related to Takao Station during the Japanese colonial period. The name 'Hamasen' is derived from the Japanese pronunciation 'Hamasen' (濱線, meaning 'beach line'). It originally referred to the branch line that ran from Kaohsiung Port Station to the cargo warehouses at the pier during the Japanese colonial period. Later, it broadly referred to the area from Kaohsiung Port Station (now the Old Takao Station Story House) west to the ferry pier. It is the birthplace of Kaohsiung's modernization.
