Cijin Fort (Qihou Fort)

Cijin Fort is located on Qihou Mountain, at the northernmost tip of Cijin. This strategic location guards the entrance to Kaohsiung Port and has been a military stronghold since ancient times. Troops were stationed and batteries were established here as early as the initial period of Qing rule. Following the Mudan Incident in 1874, driven by a policy to strengthen coastal defenses, the Qing government constructed new-style forts at three locations – Qihou (mid-level), Shaochuantou (low-level), and Caishan (high-level) – utilizing three gun emplacements at different elevations to comprehensively safeguard Kaohsiung Port.
