Fengshan City God Temple

The Fengshan City God Temple was built in the 5th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1800) and boasts incredibly prosperous incense offerings. Stepping inside, visitors can observe two unique artifacts: a wooden plaque inscribed with 'You Have Arrived' and a 'Large Abacus.' The 'You Have Arrived' plaque powerfully symbolizes that everyone must eventually report to the City God, written in a vigorous style; the 'Large Abacus' meticulously represents the calculation of one's merits, demerits, good deeds, and evil deeds throughout life. Furthermore, the majestic City God sits enthroned in the main hall's shrine, flanked by the Four Head Constables and Civil and Military Judges amidst the dimly lit pillars. All around are cautionary couplets, inspiring a sense of awe. Although the Fengshan City God Temple is not expansive, its interior carvings are exquisite, its decor is opulent and magnificent, and its exterior is grand. Because people believe the City God is a deity who clearly distinguishes between good and evil, punishes wrongdoers, rewards the virtuous, and answers all prayers, worshippers are deeply devout and reliant. Even today, in cases of intractable disputes, the parties involved are often brought here to perform a ritual where they swear a solemn oath by sacrificing a chicken. With a constant stream of worshippers and ever-flourishing incense, it remains the local center of faith.
