Sanfeng Temple

Sanfeng Temple, formerly known as Sanfeng Pavilion, was first built during the Kangxi Emperor's reign in the Qing Dynasty, making it over three hundred years old. It served as the guardian deity for the former residents of Sancuocuo (near Kaohsiung Railway Station and Jianguo 3rd Road), with Marshal Zhongtan, Ne Zha the Third Prince, as its principal deity. In 1971, it relocated to its current site on Hebei 2nd Road. The Northern-style three-story temple architecture is elegant and magnificent, from its carvings to its color schemes. The solemn and exquisite door gods, created using a flat-coloring technique, are the work of master Pan Li-shui. The spacious temple plaza further enhances its majestic atmosphere. Sanfeng Temple is the largest Ne Zha temple in Taiwan. During festivals, competitive performances by Ne Zha troupes from across the island, day and night, attract worshippers, making it truly the most joyous and bustling carnival in the religious community.
