Visitor Essentials

After Typhoon Morakot in 2009, Shanlin became an important base for home reconstruction. Within the Great Love Park, there are facilities such as churches, workshops, Hope Square, Indigenous Culture Park, and Minzu Great Love Elementary School. However, what is most precious is that residents, following their respective tribal legends, totems, and preferences for colors and shapes, have formed the unique "house lexicon" of the Great Love Park. On the houses of the Bunun people, one can see vibrantly colored rhombuses, as well as totems of the sun and moon. Meanwhile, the houses of the Rukai and Paiwan people feature decorations of hundred-pacer snakes and lilies. These totems also represent the legends and memories of the entire tribe. If you see Spring Festival couplets, those are Han Chinese homes. The "Xiaolin Park" from Xiaolin Village is connected by the Lion Bridge, built and donated by the Lions Club. A few bamboo clumps have become an important memory of Xiaolin's original homeland.
