Shuangci Temple

Shuangci Temple, located on Sanmin Road in Fengshan, is the oldest temple in Fengshan District, with a history of over three hundred years since its establishment. Its founding can be traced back to the late Ming Dynasty, when it first enshrined Guanyin Bodhisattva from Mount Putuo as its main deity, and was then known as 'Guanyin Pavilion'. In the 18th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign during the Qing Dynasty (1753), the front hall was added, and Mazu (Heavenly Holy Mother) was invited from Quanzhou to be enshrined, causing Guanyin Bodhisattva to move to the rear hall. As both main deities are female, devotees, moved by the compassion of the two saints, collectively called it 'Shuangci Pavilion'. Locals commonly refer to it as 'Mazu Temple', 'Tianhou Palace', or 'The Grand Temple'. Its construction dates back earlier than Longshan Temple, which is designated as a Class 2 historic monument. The temple is exceptionally prosperous with incense offerings, attracting a continuous stream of worshippers.
