Visitor Essentials

The Kaohsiung Literature Museum is located within Central Park in the heart of Kaohsiung City, adjacent to the famous "Urban Spotlight". The building itself was established in 1954, originally serving as Kaohsiung's first post-war library. In 1997, it was repurposed as the city's second main library. It wasn't until 2003 that the government, to promote local literature, renamed it as the first literature museum in Taiwan named after a city, with its title personally inscribed by writer Yeh Shih-tao. This marked the official launch of its mission to preserve, collect, and promote Kaohsiung literature. In 2006, it was approved by the Council for Cultural Affairs as a "Local Cultural Museum".
