During the Qing Dynasty, Meinong Township, centered around Yong'an Street, was enclosed by palisade gates. The East Gate was the only one featuring a gate tower. Dongmen Tower is Meinong's most famous landmark, with a very unique design. It was originally built in 1755 by the Hakka people, who valued education and hoped for their descendants to achieve prominence, as an inner tower building constructed at the East Palisade Gate. In 1937, it was rebuilt to resemble the dragon eaves and phoenix pavilions of the Qing Dynasty, standing majestic and graceful. The four characters 'Daqi Wenming' (Great Enlightenment and Civilization) are inscribed on the gate tower, making it a historical site that embodies the rich life of the Meinong people. Dongmen Tower is located at the end of Yong'an Road, on the main axis that runs through the entire township, bearing witness to the history of Meinong's establishment. The Meinong River below it was formerly a public laundry area for women.
