Visitor Essentials
Zuoying boasts beautiful mountains and waters; the beautiful mountain is Banpingshan, a unique hill with coral reef limestone geology containing a large number of marine organism fossils. The entrance is divided into east and west sides. The west side features a prominent 'Banpingshan Hiking Trail' archway and is equipped with trails, pavilions, etc. It has been quite famous since the Qing Dynasty, often mentioned alongside Lotus Pond as a renowned attraction in Kaohsiung, making it an excellent spot for hiking, trekking, and ecological observation. The east side was originally a cement quarry, which has now ceased operations and is undergoing post-mining soil and water conservation treatment and maintenance work. Banpingshan's name and appearance were also shaped by past excessive mining. Since mining ceased on July 10, 1998, over 20,000 woody plants, comprising more than 340 different species, have been planted to date.
