Qishan Old Street

Since the Qing Dynasty, Qishan has been an important commercial hub in Southern Taiwan. Its convenient transportation and abundant agricultural produce made it a gathering place for officials and merchants. During the Japanese colonial period, with the rise of the sugar and banana industries, Qishan's economy boomed, and its urban landscape transformed. The economic prosperity brought by the sugar industry led to the rapid development of local commercial districts and the construction of many unique architectural styles, establishing Qishan as a major economic center in the mountainous areas of Kaohsiung.
