Beyond the beautiful beaches, night market snacks, and historical sites in Cijin, Cijin 2nd Road is also home to a tranquil and elegant War and Peace Memorial Park, which commemorates a lost and forgotten history. During World War II and the Chinese Civil War, 60,000 young Taiwanese men left home to fight. Over 30,000 Taiwanese soldiers died overseas, and 15,000 went missing. After the ROC military took control of Taiwan, more than 15,000 additional troops were sent to mainland China to participate in the Chinese Civil War and the Korean War. It's estimated that over 10,000 of them were killed or wounded. Only a few hundred successfully returned to Taiwan, with hundreds more stranded in mainland China, and some even captured and integrated into the People's Liberation Army. To commemorate this significant historical fact, the War and Peace Memorial Park was finally inaugurated on May 20, 2009, thanks to the tireless efforts and lifelong dedication of Mr. Xu Zhaorong and the ROC Military Taiwanese Veterans and Dependents Association.
