Xiziwan Chiang Kai-shek Residence

The Xiziwan Chiang Kai-shek Residence is located on Lianhai Road in Gushan District, a secluded abode nestled among lush trees within the National Sun Yat-sen University campus. This green, two-story, Japanese-Western style building was constructed in 1935 by the Taiwan Governor-General's Office during the Japanese colonial period for a commemorative exhibition celebrating its 40th anniversary of rule in Taiwan. Due to its proximity to Xiziwan Beach, it once served as a warm bathhouse affiliated with the beach. From 1952 onwards, it became the late President Chiang Kai-shek's southern retreat. Given the historical significance of the residence, the second floor still preserves and displays artifacts related to President Chiang, and the presidential car from that era is still parked in the first-floor courtyard. However, the first-floor space has been converted into the 'Xiziwan Gallery,' quietly narrating the passage of time and the poignant history of political transitions.
