Delegeri Bridge

Maolin District is located in the mountainous area of Kaohsiung, where magnificent landscapes crafted by nature and indigenous culture are deeply intertwined with this beautiful land. In 2009, due to Typhoon Morakot, the connecting roads were severely damaged. To ensure the safety of local residents and tourists, the Delegeri Bridge, costing 700 million [Taiwan Dollars], was completed in 2013. "Delegeri" is the Rukai pronunciation for "Maolin". The bridge is 880 meters long, 10 meters wide, and has a maximum clear height of 52 meters, making it the nation's third-highest prestressed concrete box girder bridge. The Delegeri Bridge was specifically designed to place its piers away from the erosion caused by river bends, with pier foundations reaching a depth of 38 meters to withstand the rapid currents of the Zhuokou River. Its elevated structure stands majestically above the winding course of the Zhuokou River, complementing the layered green mountains and blending with Maolin's unique terrain. It has not only become a new landmark for the Maolin area but also won a gold medal at the 2013 LivCom Awards (International Awards for Liveable Communities) organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
