Yong'an Old Street

Meinong was formerly known as "Minong". During the Qing Dynasty, Hakka people, originally from Ligang, Pingtung, crossed the Laonong River and came to Meinong's Moon Mountain to establish "Minong Village". When the village was founded, sixteen families of early settlers built 24 traditional Hakka houses here and named the street "Yong'an Street" (meaning "eternal peace and security"), hoping for permanent peaceful living. With a history of two hundred years, it was the earliest developed and most prosperous street of its time. From the Jingzitang (respect-the-written-word pavilion) on the western side of Minong Village all the way to the East Gate Tower, a distance of about two kilometers, it is filled with an ancient and nostalgic atmosphere. The Desheng Temple, Earth God Shrine, Songwu Academy, ancient wells, Hakka blue shirt shops, Meinong Old Bridge, and irrigation canals, along with countless antique Hakka traditional houses and beautiful gatehouses, tell a beautiful story of two centuries of change and resilience.
