Tseng Wen-Chung Art Museum

Meinong is a place blessed with outstanding people and natural beauty. Its beautiful mountains, rivers, and sincere local hospitality nurtured literary figures like Zhong Lihe, who dedicated his life to literature and spoke out for farmers, as well as artists like Teacher Tseng Wen-Chung, who selflessly devoted himself to aesthetic education and the preservation of local beauty. Teacher Tseng Wen-Chung is a renowned oil and watercolor painter. Growing up in the Tseng family's traditional Hakka house on Yong'an Old Street, he developed a deep affection for Meinong's local customs, beautiful scenery, and traditional houses. He created hundreds of works in his 'Meinong Hometown Series' and 'Kaohsiung Series,' capturing the picturesque landscapes of his hometown, which he saw as beautiful as a peach blossom spring, one by one. He also generously donated large paintings to government cultural institutions and schools from time to time to promote aesthetic education and inspire students. Tseng Wen-Chung had a special fondness for traditional Hakka communal houses (huofang). Sensing that these beautifully and uniquely designed houses were gradually disappearing due to disrepair over time, he tirelessly advocated for their preservation and adaptive reuse. In 2000, he finally rebuilt his ancestral home on Yong'an Street into a spacious modern gallery, establishing the 'Tseng Wen-Chung Art Museum' here. It displays his own works and those of other artists and provides a venue for art and literature lectures. He also encouraged the residents of the huofang on Yong'an Street to preserve, document, and display Hakka cultural artifacts and history, forming a cluster of huofang art museums to ensure the long-term preservation and continuation of Hakka cultural heritage.
