Kaohsiung City Fishing Culture Museum

The port city of Kaohsiung is the birthplace of Taiwan's distant-water fisheries, boasting over 3,000 fishing vessels with a total tonnage exceeding 560,000 tons. It annually catches over 700,000 metric tons of fishery products, accounting for 50% of Taiwan's total fishery production, which clearly demonstrates the contribution and importance of Kaohsiung's fishing industry to Taiwan. The Fishing Culture Museum was established to enhance public understanding of Kaohsiung's fishing industry, thereby encouraging concern for its development and legacy. The museum is divided into various themed areas, including distant-water trawling, inshore and coastal fisheries, aquatic product processing, aquaculture, fishery conservation and utilization, as well as the Squid Fishing Culture Hall and Tuna Fishing Culture Hall. It uses various real-life images and multimedia to convey knowledge about marine fisheries, allowing the public and future generations to better understand and connect with Kaohsiung's vital industry. The establishment of the Fishing Culture Museum also integrates with the Cianjhen Fishing Port Fish Product Direct Sales Center and the Cianjhen Fish Market, providing the public with an intellectual and recreational space related to fisheries, while also fulfilling functions in fishery education, culture, and tourism.
