The history of Tianliao Cold Spring is quite extensive. In earlier years, the Tianliao area had barren soil and lacked water sources. Local residents discovered cold springs gushing from rock crevices, leading them to settle by the water and utilize the cold spring for daily life and irrigation. This made the precious carbonic cold spring a vital source of life for the Tianliao area. After the Japanese army was stationed here upon their arrival in Taiwan, they discovered this to be a rare carbonic cold spring globally. They even established a police sanatorium in the cold spring area, fostering a local bathing culture. Tianliao Cold Spring is a naturally occurring sodium bicarbonate spring with a pH of 7 and an average water temperature of 22°C. It is a low-temperature spring with clear, colorless water and a faint sulfur scent. During the Japanese colonial era, people would heat the spring water for bathing. Due to its pure and gentle quality, it earned the reputation of being a "Beauty Skin Spring." It is also the only area in Southern Taiwan with a cold spring.
