The Hong Family Old Residence in Neimen is a traditional Southern Min (Minnan) style building located at Erpu, Sanping Village, Neimen District. It was originally built in 1870. Due to its long history, it has undergone several expansions and additions by descendants, incorporating various other elements. The ancestral home features a grand 'seven bays enclosing three main halls' layout, comprising seven main halls in total, with three forming the front section. The two main sections are connected by side wings ('hulong') and covered corridors ('guoshui'), forming a fully enclosed quadrangle compound, a layout typical of wealthy families in the past. It is constructed from a mix of rammed earth houses ('tujiaocuo') and red brick houses ('hongzhuancuo'), featuring red tile roofs, red brick facades, and bamboo branches and timber used as beams. A distinctive feature is the 'guandao'-shaped arched roof beam decoration visible under the eaves. This ancient and weathered residence offers a glimpse into the lyrical beauty of Minnan architecture and bears witness to the pioneering history of its early inhabitants.
