Visitor Essentials

Kaohsiung MRT Airport Station serves as Kaohsiung's gateway to the world. To align with the open and bright image of Kaohsiung as a maritime city, the Kaohsiung MRT designed skylights at the airport station to capture blue skies and white clouds. The 'Coalesced Emerald' resonates with green water and life. This, currently the world's largest glass sculpture 3D public art piece, was designed and created by German glass artist Lutz Haufschild. The artwork is divided into two walls, A and B. Wall A features the Tree of Life as its theme, creating a concept of endless vitality and thriving life. Wall B, 'Infinity,' resembles waves pushing against the shore; although serene, it possesses immense tension. Coupled with lighting designed to adapt to the changing light and sun exposure at the R4 station site, tens of thousands of green glass pieces of varying shades, through reflection and refraction effects, offer viewers different perceptions and imaginations depending on the angle. This translucent emerald artwork, full of power and imagination, transforms the airport gateway from merely a transportation hub into a new venue for city residents to engage with art, and a transfer station for aesthetic living.
