Visitor Essentials
Fo Guang Shan Monastery is located in the northern part of Dashu District. Founded in 1967 (Republic of China Year 56) by Master Hsing Yun, who led his disciples in clearing the land and building it brick by brick. Spanning over 50 hectares, it stretches along the right bank of the Gaoping River, connecting with the Buddha Memorial Center, which was newly built in 2011. Numerous Buddha halls, both large and small, are arranged along the mountain slopes, creating a solemn, majestic, and grand spectacle. It is an important Buddhist sacred site in Taiwan.
