Zhongdu Tangrong Brick Kiln Factory

The Zhongdu Tangrong Brick Kiln Factory was once renowned for producing high-quality refractory bricks. Its predecessor was the Samejima Brick Factory, established in 1899. In 1985, the old factory buildings, originally slated for demolition due to factors such as changing times and environmental considerations, were preserved. With its two towering chimneys, Bagua kiln, three downdraft kilns, an experimental kiln, a tunnel kiln, and a brick-built office from the Japanese colonial period, among other equipment, it stands as a living museum of brick kiln history. It not only bears witness to a century of industrial and economic development, but the structure, texture, and brickwork of its red brick architecture also offer significant architectural aesthetic value and examples. Consequently, after 2003, it was successively designated as a municipal and national historic site, becoming Kaohsiung's first historic cultural park.
