National Museum of Prehistory, Southern Taiwan Science Park Archaeology Museum

The opportunity arose in 1995 when five-thousand-year-old ancient civilizations were unearthed at this site. The National Science Council of the Executive Yuan commissioned Academia Sinica and the National Museum of Prehistory to conduct investigations and excavations. To date, over 58 archaeological sites have been discovered, containing prehistoric cultures dating from approximately 5,000 years ago to as recent as 300 years ago. This makes it the region in Taiwan with the highest density of archaeological sites, the most complete cultural stratigraphy, and the largest excavated area. To preserve, research, and exhibit the findings from these salvage excavations carried out due to regional development, and through the collaborative efforts of various parties, the construction plan for the National Museum of Prehistory - Southern Taiwan Science Park Archaeology Museum was finally completed, covering an area of approximately 2.42 hectares with a total floor area of 19,000 square meters.
