Zheng Wang Temple

Dating back to the 15th year of Emperor Yongli's reign in the Ming Dynasty (the 18th year of Emperor Shunzhi's reign in the Qing Dynasty, 1661 AD), over three hundred years ago, there were three brothers from the Lei family of Fujian Province. In the late summer of that same year, they departed from the Fujian coast on three separate sailing ships, full of ambition, sailing towards Taiwan. They were accompanied by three wives and several servants. Onboard, they carried a revered statue of Lord Wen (Wenfu Qiansui). The journey was smooth sailing all the way. As the ships were about to enter Guosheng Port, an unexpected northeast monsoon suddenly unleashed strong winds, torrential rain, and crashing waves. Despite their strenuous efforts, alas, fate could not be averted. As the ships were nearing the port, they were struck and sunk by huge waves. The esteemed leader, his family members, the able-bodied men, and the golden statue of Lord Wen all sank there.
