Xinying Jian Temple primarily worships Baosheng Dadi. It is the first temple in the Xinying area, considered the foundational main temple of the settlement, and is affectionately called the "Great Temple" by locals. According to legend, the temple's origin dates back to the Yongli period of the Ming Dynasty. A person surnamed Xiao from Budai, Chiayi, was passing through the area and, while resting, received a dream from Baosheng Dadi. In the dream, Baosheng Dadi instructed people to travel to Baijiao Township, Tongan, Quanzhou, mainland China (Baosheng Dadi's hometown) to bring a divine statue to Taiwan. Subsequently, the villagers respectfully welcomed a divine statue from the Ciji Ancestral Temple in Baijiao Township, Tongan, and enshrined it in a thatched hut. A formal temple was only constructed in the 20th year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1840), due to the increasing population in the Xinying area.
