Xinshi Yong'an Temple

Xinshi Yong'an Temple primarily worships the Heavenly Holy Mother - Mazu, also known as 'Muzha Mazu.' This refers to 'Muzha Port' before the silting of the Taijiang Inner Sea, a temple situated beside a waterway that enjoyed great popularity. Later, due to floods and plagues, residents relocated to higher ground, gradually forming a market, which is the origin of today's place name 'Xinshi' (New Market). Wooden Architecture, Master Painter's Artworks The temple architecture of Xinshi Yong'an Temple is built in the Southern Fujianese (Minnan) wooden style. The entire temple was constructed without a single nail. This small yet beautiful temple allows for a perfect close-up appreciation of the scale of its wooden structure. During its renovation in 2018, the temple invited Master Liao Qingzhang, an artist who had received the Chinese Cultural Arts Heritage Award, to oversee the painting of the door gods, beams, door panels, and other areas within the temple. Painter Liao combined a humanistic painting style of landscape and calligraphy, imbuing Yong'an Temple with a distinct scholarly atmosphere.
