Mituo Temple

Mituo Temple, established during the Yongli reign of the Ming dynasty (1647-1661 AD), is one of the four renowned temples in Fucheng. Initially, it was small in scale and known as Mituo Chamber. It was only after its expansion that it became known as Mituo Temple, also becoming one of Fucheng's seven temples and eight shrines. In 1858 AD, merchants and devotees in Fucheng jointly donated a large bell. During World War II, the temple was destroyed in an air raid. The large bell also narrowly escaped being confiscated by the Japanese army to be melted down for weapons. Fortunately, World War II ended before it could be melted. It was later purchased by an antique dealer and re-donated to Mituo Temple.
