In the 15th year of the Yongli reign of the Ming Dynasty (AD 1661), the statue of 'Erlangniang' (the Second Lady), serving as the guardian deity of seafaring, accompanied Zheng Chenggong's navy across the sea from Fujian to Taiwan. After Taiwan was secured, soldiers were dispatched to various locations to raise troops and reclaim land. At that time, a general under Zheng Chenggong led troops to 'Beizaiwei' in Danei (later renamed Guoxinghu) and found a suitable location to enshrine Erlangniang for worship. It was then that Erlangniang gazed upon three majestic mountains towering in the south (Note: In earlier times, the mountains stretching from Mengzheng Village to Shanziwei in this area were continuous, embodying beautiful scenery and spiritual energy, thus deemed an auspicious place for peaceful living). Consequently, she instructed the stationed troops to relocate to Shanzi Peak. Later, the devotee Lin Dian reverently welcomed Erlangniang to the front left of the current temple site, where a thatched hut was built as a temple for her worship, thereby establishing the foundation of Tianhou Temple.
