Dawan Guanghu Temple

Yongkang Guanghu Temple primarily worships Guanghui Shengwang, a relatively uncommon primary deity in Taiwan. Guanghui Zunwang was a real historical figure: Xie An, the greatly famous statesman who won the Battle of Feishui. Xie An was a man of the Eastern Jin dynasty, known for his strategies and noble character. After his death, he was posthumously granted the title "Duke of Luling Commandery." Therefore, Guanghui Shengwang is also known as Wang Gongye, and the temple is called "Wang Gong Miao" (Wang Gong Temple). The belief in Guanghui Zunwang was brought to Taiwan by immigrants from Zhangzhou. According to local gazettes, the temple was founded during the Koxinga (Zheng) era. Even during the Japanese colonial period, when the temple structure was dismantled to build a police station and later its side rooms were demolished during the Japanization movement, the faith has continued uninterrupted to this day, making it the center of belief for the Dawan area. The twelve-yearly Jianjiao festival is a major local event. The most famous part of the parade procession is the "Centipede Array," where children dressed as various historical or mythical figures sit on a centipede-shaped float, making it a focal point for photography enthusiasts.
