Erwang Temple

Erwang Temple is a historic ancient temple in the Yongkang area, built in 1681 AD. It originally enshrined Zheng Jing, the King of Yanping, who died here after falling from his horse. Over time, with the evolution of religious beliefs, the temple now primarily worships Guan Sheng Di Jun (Emperor Guan), but still venerates Erwangye of the Zheng family. This temple is known for its many legends. It is said that during the late Qing Dynasty, the area around Erwanglun, where the temple is situated, was covered in towering banyan trees and was sparsely populated, with only a narrow path for access. At that time, bandits were rampant and brazenly announced their plan to rob the settlement. Terrified, the local residents prayed to Erwangye for safety. Unexpectedly, when the bandits arrived that day, they became lost in the banyan forest and could not find the path to the village. The residents were astonished, believing it to be a divine miracle performed by Erwang, which cemented the temple's significance in the local faith.
