Pangong Stone Archway

The Pangong Stone Archway was originally the outermost entrance to the Confucian Temple. During the Qianlong Emperor's reign, when Prefect Jiang Yuanxu renovated the Confucian Temple, he rebuilt this entrance, commissioning stonemasons to carve and construct an exquisite archway, which was then transported to Tainan for assembly. Among all Confucian Temples in Taiwan, only the Tainan Confucian Temple possesses this feature. During the Japanese colonial period, to construct Nanmen Road, the stone archway was separated from the Confucian Temple. Its original function was gradually forgotten, and many people are even unaware that it is an ancillary structure of the Confucian Temple.
