Taipingjing Dr. James Maxwell Memorial Church

If you walk along Minsheng Green Park and turn onto Gongyuan Road, you will surely see an elegant white church that holds a very important place in the hearts of many Tainan residents. Founded in 1865 by Dr. James Maxwell, a missionary of the British Presbyterian Church, the church stands prominently in the ancient city with a strong exotic flair. Over several centuries, the church has developed deep connections with the local community, and its name has evolved from the 'Fan-a-jiao Church' and 'Gou-a-ding Church' to the 'Kajimachi Church' during the Japanese colonial period. Today, it is known as the 'Taipingjing Dr. James Maxwell Memorial Church,' commemorating Dr. James Maxwell.
