Yongkang District is located in the former Taijiang Inner Sea, hence there are many ponds and bridges. Among them, the most famous is "Crucian Carp Pond." In ancient times, this pond was the Dawan Strait. Later, due to land uplift, it became a lagoon and then gradually evolved into a pond. Located within today's Yongkang District, this pond has three names: one is Crucian Carp Pond, named for the abundant crucian carp in its waters. Another is East Lake, named for its location to the east of the Prefectural City. A third is Dragon Pond, referred to by geomancers as the location of the Prefectural City's Earth Dragon. The pond's water never dries up throughout the year, serving as an important irrigation source within Yongkang. Its waters, never running dry throughout the seasons, are most beautiful under a clear moon. Along with Guanmiao's "Datan Pond," it was one of the former Eight Scenic Spots of Taiyi (Taiwan Prefectural City), known as "Crucian Carp Pond under Clear Moon" or "Dragon Pond Night Moon."
