Former Tainan Prefectural Hall - National Museum of Taiwan Literature

The National Museum of Taiwan Literature is arguably the most important landmark in downtown Tainan. Designed by Japanese architect Moriyama Matsunosuke, it was completed and put into use in 1916. At that time, it served as the Tainan Prefectural Hall during the Japanese colonial period, which was the highest administrative center in Tainan. This also laid the foundation for the bustling prosperity of the surrounding streets, with many important government offices located around the prefectural hall. During World War II, it was damaged by Allied bombing, but after several repairs, it ultimately maintained its original appearance. After the war, it served as the seat of the Tainan City Government for a long time. Currently, it has become the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, imbued with a rich artistic and literary atmosphere.
