It is said to be the first branch community established by the Sinkang people who moved to the shallow mountainous areas due to pressure from Han Chinese, hence its name 'Toushe' (meaning 'Head Community' or 'First Community'). This place was an important trading hub for the Han Chinese, and most of its residents belonged to the Mattau tribe. They worship the ancestral spirit Taizu. To the north of the community is a three-room style Kōkai (communal house) building called 'Taishang Longtou Zhongyi Temple', which is currently the largest Plains Indigenous Kōkai in Taiwan.
