Due to their economic and political influence, the "Madou Lin Family" enjoyed a reputation at the time comparable to the "Wufeng Lin Family of Taichung" and the "Banqiao Lin Family of Taipei," with the three collectively known as "Taiwan's Three Lins." Following family divisions, inheritances, and the surge in land prices caused by urban development, the seven exquisite mansions built during the Qing dynasty met the fate of demolition and reconstruction due to differing views among their owners. The "New Fourth Branch House" was among the earlier ones to be demolished for this reason. As the owners held differing opinions on the preservation of the old residence, the left half of the central axis was demolished in May 1978.
