Former Japanese Tainan Garrison Hospital

The Japanese Army Tainan Garrison Hospital was established at Chikan Tower in the 30th year of Meiji (1897 AD). In the 6th year of Taishō (1917 AD), a larger-scale hospital complex was rebuilt on the north side of the Japanese Army Infantry 2nd Regiment (now National Cheng Kung University's Kuang-fu Campus) according to the Japanese Army's third phase permanent barracks plan, resulting in a very comprehensive facility. In the 12th year of Shōwa (1937 AD), it was renamed the Tainan Army Hospital. After World War II, in the 37th year of the Republic (1948 AD), the Nationalist Government Army took over the site and established the Army Training Command Military Hospital, which began admitting patients in mid-September. The following year, it was renamed the Taiwan Provincial Army Command Military Hospital. In April of the 39th year of the Republic (1950 AD), it was reorganized as the "Army General Headquarters Military Hospital," and in October, it was again reorganized as the "Army Academy Military Hospital." In March of the 41st year of the Republic (1952 AD), it was reorganized as the "Army Independent Hospital," and in May, it was again renamed the "Army Hospital," directly subordinate to the Army General Headquarters. In the 43rd year of the Republic (1954 AD), the "Army Hospital" was upgraded to the "Combined Logistics Fourth General Hospital," directly subordinate to the Combined Logistics Command Headquarters. In the 44th year of the Republic (1955 AD), it was re-subordinated to the Medical Service Department of the Army Logistics Command, and the hospital's name became the "Army Fourth General Hospital." In the 49th year of the Republic (1960 AD), the Army General Headquarters, to unify the designations of its various hospitals, renamed the facility the "Army 804th General Hospital," commonly known as "804 Hospital." In the 89th year of the Republic (2000 AD), the hospital's current site was transferred to National Cheng Kung University, and in the 90th year of the Republic (2001 AD), the campus planning for the western plot of National Cheng Kung University's Lixing Campus (the former 804 Military Hospital) was completed.
