Former Anping Chen Baozheng Residence

The Chen Baozheng Residence has stood on Yanping Street since the Qing Dynasty period. It was the residence of Mr. Chen Zhiyun, a naval officer dispatched from Fujian to Taiwan in the late Qing Dynasty, who later served as a Baozheng during the Japanese colonial period. It is a typical three-bay street house. Later, during the widening of Yanping Street, the front section was demolished, leaving only the central ridge of the front section and the layout of the middle and rear sections. Inside, it features mezzanines and partition walls made of coral stone. In the courtyard between the middle and rear sections, there is a very prominent 'Baoji' spirit screen. It is built of red bricks, 42 centimeters thick, approximately 4 meters high and 1.5 meters wide. The screen features a Bagua (Eight Trigrams) motif with the sculpted characters 'Baoji'. Above it are sun, moon, and cloud decorations, and four bats adorn its four corners. This is the most distinctive feature of the building.
